Genshin Impact Hits #1 in Consumer Spend on Gaming, While Google Play Fuels a 15% Year-over-Year Spike in Downloads to 14 Billion

Gaming has always been the biggest single category in the booming app economy. It still is. data.ai's latest quarterly global market pulse reveals that games accounted for 73% of consumer spend on Google Play, and 60% on iOS in Q1 2022.

This added up to a forecasted $22 billion total spend for the quarter. Meanwhile the new data also shows a huge overall rise on pre-pandemic levels of gaming spend.
