Consumer Adoption of Apps Reaches Record 38.7 Billion Downloads in Q3 2022 Amid Spending Cooldown

Downloads keep surging as consumers install apps and games in record numbers – but overall consumer spend slips by 5% year-over-year as the effect of pandemic surge levels off

After the pandemic hit in 2020, we have seen an unprecedented adoption of mobile apps, resulting in a surge in both downloads and consumer spend. As the world starts to reopen, we are starting to see the impact of the pandemic surge leveling off, although still significantly higher than where we started off prior to the pandemic. In our latest report, we saw that Consumer Spend in Mobile Apps in Q3 2022 remained strong at $32.4 Billion globally, around 5% lower than the all time high of $34 Billion in the year prior, but still 40% higher than pre-pandemic level.

The quarterly download numbers had been rising ever since the industry launched in 2007. But could they keep trending upwards?

The latest numbers are in, and they prove yet again that, when it comes to downloads for mobile apps, there is simply no sign of slowing momentum.
