News Unveils Two New Categories As Part of Its 2024 Top Publishers Awards

This year, we are proud to unveil two new categories as part of our Top Publisher Awards, now in its 13th year: Top Apps By Mobile Performance Score and Top Publishers By Mobile Performance Score.

The new categories highlight revenue success alongside the comprehensive performance of publishers and their apps in driving growth, engagement, user acquisition and monetization within the dynamic mobile landscape. This innovative initiative introduces publisher-level and app-level rankings, categorized according to’s proprietary Game IQ and App IQ taxonomy.

Awarding Achievements in Growth 

Powered by's proprietary Mobile Performance Score, the two new categories utilize an industry-first composite metric, allowing for a holistic view of mobile performance. They are designed to recognize publishers and apps for their outstanding achievements in 2023 by integrating data on downloads, monthly active users, revenue and year-over-year growth across all three metrics.

Highlights from Our Flagship Top Publisher Awards by Consumer Spend

In its 13th year running,’s Top Publisher Award celebrates the achievements of 50 companies across various industries on mobile. 

In 2023, apps outpaced games, fueling 11% YoY growth in consumer spend to $64 billion and propelling the rebound of the overall sector. In fact, among the top 50 publishers, the number of those focusing on non-gaming content rose to 13, up from 11 in 2022. 

Tencent (#1) topped the charts for the seventh consecutive year, earning $8.7 billion, followed by ByteDance (#2) and Google (#3), whose combined in-app purchases collectively amounted to nearly $10 billion in annual consumer spending boosted by popular Social and Entertainment apps like TikTok and YouTube. Activision Blizzard (#4) earned $3.3 billion and Playrix (#5) earned $2.9 billion, rounding out the top 5. 

Publishers headquartered in the Asia Pacific region dominated the list, making up more than half (27) of the top 50 and commanding 52% of consumer spending. However, the United States had the largest number of top publishers for a single country with 18 (36% of the total share), followed by China with 12 (31% of the total share).
