2021 was record breaking as consumers continue to embrace a mobile lifestyle with consumers in the top 10 mobile markets spending a staggering 4.8 hours a on mobile. The Top Publisher Award truly reflects the trend, with gaming and social sectors dominating the charts.
A record number of Game publishers saw tremendous growth in 2021, including CyberAgent(#12), miHoYo(#14), 37games(#25), Kakao Corp(#41), Ultrapower(#45), Topwar Studio(#47) and Stillfront(#52) all moving up more than ten places. Top titles from these publishers included Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Genshin Impact, Puzzles & Survival, Odin Valhalla Rising, Age of Z Origins, Top War: Battle Game and Property Brothers Home Design respectively. With the quality of gaming on mobile matching the experience of PC consoles, games with high quality production value such as Genshin Impact and Odin Valhallla Rising are gaining explosive popularity.
Consumers are also spending more time on Entertainment and Social apps. ByteDance(#7) saw strong gains in app purchase revenue from its global short video phenomenon TikTok, jumping 17 positions from the year prior, while Google(#5) jumped six positions to number 5 as premium content subscription within YouTube drove in-app-purchase revenue growth. Mobile dating platforms saw big gains with Match Group(#9) and Bumble(#49) rose more than ten ranks with apps like Tinder and Bumble App seeing wider popularity during the pandemic.
Publishers headquartered in Asia Pacific dominated the list and make up more than half (33) of The Top 52. With 17, the Greater China Region had the most number of top publishers, followed closely by the United States with 15.

The list is composed of the Top 52 mobile publishers by combined iOS and Google Play revenue estimates from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021. These rankings do not include revenue earned from in-app advertising, commerce, or payments outside of the app stores.
